keeping your lamp pure
22 “The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light.23 “But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth. Matthew 6:22-24there is a big misconception around today in the Christian culture that what you watch or listen to doesn’t affect you, and so people go to the movies or plug in their earphones and put into their minds whatever “sounds good” “looks good” or “feels good”. i am here to tell you that what you put in is what you will get out, and what you sow that you will reap. i think its the lamest excuse ever when i here somebody say “i dont let it affect me” or “i dont listen to the words”. thats not biblical.
it lays it out clearly in Matthew 6 that what your eyes see is what you will become, and if your eyes are on darkness then “how great is that darkness!”
if your eyes are constantly feeding on cursing, gossip, slander, murder, sex outside of marriage, and anything else that contradicts how your supposed to live your life, then what do you expect when you keep failing in those issues. and if your not failing with those issues, then why would you start putting it in your head!
but like most things this all boils down to a heart issue. if you truly were seeking after God with all your heart, then why would you gladly put into your mind what profanes His name? its like running in the opposite direction! if this were a husband and wife relationship (and just to let you know it is) it would be the equivalent of the wife having one night stands with other men and then telling her husband that she didn’t let it affect her!
that one curse word nailed Jesus to the cross. that one coarse joke nailed Jesus to the cross. that one “Jesus Christ!!!” spoken in vain nailed Jesus to the cross. is that what we are called to revile in? is that what we are called to put our money into? is that what we are called to put into our heads? i cant help but think that Jesus wouldn’t just “not listen to the words” or “not let it affect Him”. it grieves His heart! and if it grieves His heart then it should be our goal and desire that it would grieve our hearts also.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Do Not Be Yoked With Unbelievers
14Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 15What harmony is there between Christ and Belialb? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? 16What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”c
17“Therefore come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”d
18“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”e
