God: the better choice
some may look at my situation with my ex fiance and think of how sad it is, and how things could be better, and how we may “someday get back together”, but the fact of the matter is we broke up for Jesus and He is all that matters. i dont mourn over what i have lost, instead i look back and see what i have gained in Christ! while i may have lost something dear to my heart, i have gained so much in God that it was totaly worth it and i would make that decision to give it up to God a million times over.
Jesus is always the better choice, it doesnt matter what you are giving up! I am overwhelmed with joy at times just because of the fact that me and her have the chance to seek after Jesus full heartedly instead of each other. this doesnt have to apply to just relationships though.think about what you do with your time, what do you focus on the most? now whatever that is think about how utterly worthless and pointless it is compared to dropping it and running after Jesus!
He puts things in perspective doesnt He? our american lives are just filled with stuff that distract us, and things we are expected to strive for. while these things may not be sin (well at least maybe not the majority) it is a better thing to lay them down for Jesus.
”38 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”” Luke 10:38-42
while Martha was worried about the food and cleaning and getting everything ready (these are not bad things at all) Mary just dropped it all and fell at Jesus’s feet.
i am afraid that the “martha syndrome” as it has been coined, has spread like a plauge across the church in america. we are so focused on what things look like, what things sound like, and what things feel like that we have forgotten that the better thing is to just lay it all down and fall down before Jesus.
as a sound tech, and general behind the scenes guy at church, i always have to struggle with this. i will tell you this, there is never a time where there isnt something that needs to be manned, or worked on, or watched during a worship set. but God has revealed to me lately that while all that stuff is good and important and all, how much more important is Jesus? are the people at church really going to be hindered in their worship if it doesnt sound great? or if the lighting isnt pretty? (the sad thing is yes some people cant “worship” if they are outside of their “comfort zone”)
anyways this has been written to say this: no matter where you are, or what you are doing, its always a better thing to drop it and focus on Jesus!
